The truth about Joshua Weissman

Joshua Weissman is an American chef who wrote his first cookbook, The Paleo Slim Palate Cookbook, at the age of 17 years. The California native claims that he was born with a passion for food and cooking. His mother gave him the platform to succeed as a chef, and Joshua made the most of it.

Joshua lost over 100 pounds in just a few months after discovering paleo diets

In his teens, Joshua developed negative eating habits that left him dangerously overweight. He got tired of the constant teasing from his classmates, which sometimes included physical bullying, and decided to lose weight. After a simple Google search, he came across paleo diets. He writes on his blog:

“Eventually I got to a point where I had dealt with it enough. She was tired of feeling sick and unattractive. Thus I took my first steps to learn more about health and began to re-explore my love for food. I guess it turns out you can be a foodie and still eat mindfully and healthy. After a grueling and exhausting year and a half, I managed to lose over 100 pounds at 16 years old.”

Unfortunately, Joshua went from dangerously overweight to dangerously underweight. He was so worried about not consuming carbs that he became unhealthy.

He changed his strict diet after realizing he had body dysmorphia

Joshua’s obsession with losing weight became a disease. He developed body dysmorphia from struggling to get rid of all the visible fat on his body. Joshua realized that he had a problem and decided to gain muscle mass. However, he disagreed with the fact that he needed to consume calories to gain muscle.

He continued to participate in his low-calorie diets, but soon realized that he couldn’t gain the muscle he wanted without carbs. With the help of an expert, he increased his carbohydrate diet and incorporated an exercise regimen that helped him gain more than 70 pounds of muscle.

Joshua has learned to balance his diets with the right amount of exercise to stay fit and enjoy life. He said that’s so primitive:

“For me it involves a good amount of functional movement, keeping the joints in use, not sitting too much. Of course, eating real food in a way that works well for you and makes you feel better and have more energy. In the meantime, make sure you treat yourself once in a while and don’t feel bad about it.”

Joshua quit his job at a major restaurant to pursue YouTube full time.

Unsurprisingly, and true to character, Joshua quit his job at a restaurant to pursue self-employment. He did so after gaining valuable culinary experience and earning the respect of his fellow chefs. Joshua detailed the joy of freelancing in a YouTube video posted on September 3, 2019:

“I trade at my best when I’m working. I am happier when I work than when I don’t. That is what I am. I know myself pretty well and I think that’s the key. There is no other feeling in the world comparable to leaving your job to build something that you can call your own, that sustains you, that you love to do… You never know what is going to happen. You just have to put yourself out there and do all the work.”
