Dominic Perrottet is the 46th Prime Minister of New South Wales following the surprise resignation of Gladys Berejiklian. Perrottet, a former lawyer, joined political circles in 2010, gradually establishing himself as a conservative-leaning liberal. At 39, he is the youngest to hold his current position, taking over from Gladys in a landslide.
Perrottet’s promotion has not pleased everyone in the Liberal Party. Her conservative views, including her anti-abortion stance and attack on gender-neutral language, have generated controversy, as has her endorsement of President Donald Trump in 2016.
In his first public speech, the father-of-six promised to be ‘infrastructure prime minister’ and ‘family prime minister’.
Perrottet’s parents raised twelve children and encouraged them to express their views early on.

Dominic Perrottet was born on September 21, 1982 in West Pennant Hills, New South Wales, Australia, the son of John and Anne Maria Perrottet. At the time, Dominic was the youngest of three children.
John and Anne Maria would receive ten more children, but one died during childbirth. Dominic grew up with seven brothers and five sisters.
Juan said The Sydney Morning Herald that Dominic was a “boisterous boy”, with a brain that “goes a thousand miles an hour”. “When he was three or four years old, he was going so fast his mouth couldn’t really keep up,” John wrote. “You had to calm him down a bit, but that’s because he has a very fertile mind.”
Dominic’s parents encouraged their children to debate and express their views. Every day, each child had to come to dinner with a newspaper clipping and give their opinion about it. Kids can feature anything from politics to sports.
“They had to listen and be ready to hear what the other person had to say, and not talk down,” John said. Dominic believes that the family dinner helped him and his siblings develop respect for other people’s opinions:
“Growing up in a disputed environment was very encouraging in our family; The best way to win people over is to debate with humor and not take yourself too seriously. Yes, have strong opinions, but respect the opinions of others. These solid discussions make you a critical thinker.”
Anne Maria and John needed a whiteboard to keep track of the children. Despite the best efforts of the parents, they occasionally lost at least one child. “There were times when we went on vacation and realized we had left a child somewhere,” John wrote.
Dominic credits his father with instilling in him family values.

Dominic and his father bonded over their love of running. The family’s participation in marathons brought out the competitive side of the children. John wrote in The Sydney Morning Herald on Dominic’s refusal to lose to his younger brother despite having a stomach bug:
“[Dominic] he started throwing up on the side of the road, only to see his brother Gabriel, who is half his age, run past. He thought: ‘I can’t live with this!’ So Dom composed himself, took off, and caught up with Gabe. He was never going to get hit by his little brother.”
John’s bond with Dominic transcends his love of running. Dominic looked to John as an example when he felt ready to start a family. Before proposing to his wife Helen, Dominic stopped by his father’s office for advice.
Dominic is the father of six children, and as he raises his children, he refers to the values his father instilled in him growing up. He concluded:
“What I learned from dad is that time is precious when you are at home. It’s a challenge balancing work and home life and making sure that when you’re home, you’re home, not somewhere else. It is something that has instilled in me: happiness and the joy of living that your family gives you. Dad has tested it extensively.
