Mele’s growth on TikTok during the quarantine has been incredible. In mid-February 2020, he posted a YouTube video thanking his fans for helping him reach 500,000 followers on TikTok. Over four and a half months, Mele has gained seven million followers.
Over the past few months, Mele’s father had been featured on Mele’s channel a lot. He has added a new dimension to Mele’s videos, and fans have raved about his humor. Mele’s dad usually appears in various costumes that imitate famous people.
In late March, Mele’s dad wore a costume imitating the food critic from Pixar’s Ratatouille. The look was so popular that it caught the eye of one of BuzzFeedwriters of. BuzzFeed contacted Mele and revealed that a fan pointed out the resemblance between her dad and the character.
Mele’s dad then helped hone the look before making the viral parody. “She actually came up with the idea to do her eye makeup and gel her hair and her outfit,” Mele said. “My content has always been comedy, but I’ve really focused on the internal stuff with your family and togetherness…and making people laugh during a scary time like this.”
Mele gets the humor out of her dad, who gets the humor out of his parents.
Humor in the Mele family descends from Mele’s grandparents. Mele’s father revealed in a Q&A session he did with Mele that he got his humor from her uncles and parents. He said that she had two dads who always saw the funny side of things. Mele then said that he brings the daddy mood out of her. Joe said:
“I got it from him [his dad]. He literally is never serious. Like 99% of the time, he’s telling jokes, making people laugh. Like my family, and family occasions, and all my friends, and something like that. So I would say I got my humor from my father.”
Mele and her dad have learned to work together to create their viral skits. Joe revealed in the question and answer session that he is the one who comes up with the ideas for the videos before presenting them to his father. Fans will be happy to know that Mele and her father will continue to make videos for the foreseeable future.
Mele’s dad said in the Q&A that he enjoys making videos with his son. “I enjoy making the videos,” she said. “I don’t like to do it all the time. Sometimes he asks me to make a video when I’m eating or doing something and I say let’s wait. Yes. I enjoy the videos.”
Joe’s mom and brother don’t appear in his videos, but Joe plans to include them in future projects.

A couple of days later, he wished his dad a Happy Father’s Day via Instagram. He captioned his post, “Happy Father’s Day to the legend. I love you dad, thanks for putting up with me and helping me make the world smile.
However, Mele’s mom and brother do not appear in her videos. Mele explained in a question and answer session with her father that her brother likes video games more than social networks. She also added that she plans to have her mother and brother in her videos in the future. Mel said:
“He plays video games most of the day… I guess my days consist of figuring out what I’m posting on TikTok… So I don’t really have a lot of time to hang out with my brother… Mom doesn’t want to be in the videos . I don’t think my brother will either, but we’ll definitely have to somehow incorporate them into something.”
