The 74-year-old actor got candid in a new interview with Rolling Stone about his 33-year-old Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star, who has faced significant backlash and trolling online since being cast as Captain Marvel.

“Brie is a stronger person than people think,” he said, adding, “She’s not going to let any of it destroy her.”

“These incel guys who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everyone wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she really is.”

The two first met on set in 2017. Kong: Skull Islandfollowed by her casting in her directorial debut, unicorn shop. The election of Donald Trump as president during the film brought the two even closer.
