“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time,” the statement read.

The Script, also made up of lead singer Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, is known for hit songs like “Breakeven” and “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.”

Mark didn’t appear on the band’s U.S. tour last year and the band said his absence was due to family commitments.

Danny said at the time, “It’s his story to tell, but yeah, I guess if I could paraphrase, his children needed a father and his wife needed a husband.”

We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to Mark‘s loved ones during this difficult time.
