According to the Daily Herald, Brian Peck, 60, was severely reprimanded by the judge Monday for the murder and dismemberment of Gail Peck, 76, at their suburban Chicago home in 2017. The judge cited Brian Peck’s “irreparable depravity” in his remarks.

Cook County Circuit Judge Joseph Cataldo told the court, “Can’t get much worse than that.” Peck, of Elgin, received 50 years in prison for killing his mother, 20 years in prison for mutilating her body, and 5 years in prison for covering up the crime. But since the sentences will then be served at 50%, he will actually serve 62 (12 years) in prison – about 4 years less than he has served pending trial.
According to acquaintances, Peck’s mother is a dog lover and breast cancer survivor who celebrated life “even without the chance,” according to a report in the Daily Herald. Peck was found guilty of murdering his mother in February.
“How can you look at your mother with such disdain?” Sherry Orrico, a close friend of Gail Peck, took the question Monday in court. “She was buried in pieces with a body part still missing, so she didn’t get the honor she deserved…”
Then, according to Peck’s account, he “swallowed” the mother’s leg, threw her to the ground, stepped on her, and put his foot on her neck. According to the newspaper, he then dismembered her body and placed some of her remains in trash bags before dumping them in Lake Michigan.
The report says that Peck then dumped some of his mother’s remains in a coffin and canvas bag filled with bricks down to Lincoln Park in Chicago.
The next day, Gail Peck’s son called the police and said she went for a walk with her dog but didn’t come back. A day later, a fisherman found a cloth bag in the lagoon containing some of her body parts.
Peck declared in court Monday, “I love my mother with all my heart and soul,” prompting the detectives to turn.
Gail’s only son, Peck, admitted to dismembering his mother because he didn’t think police would accept his request to defend himself, the Naperville Sun reported.
On the other hand, Cataldo honestly reprimanded the first-degree killer. The court asked: “What kind of person can look at his mother … and chop her body like that.”
