Daniel Ek was born in Stockholm, Sweden on February 21, 1983. Ek was raised by his mother and stepfather, according to Money Inc and Famous Zoom. Ek has clearly been interested in technology from an early age. Daniel Ek started building websites for clients at the age of 13 and his company has grown tremendously over time. He recruited other students in his class to work for him, and had about 25 people reporting directly to him for a few years, before he turned 20.
Ek attended the IT Gymnasium in Sundbyberg, where he graduated in 2002, before enrolling in engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. However, he eventually decided to drop out of college to pursue a career in technology. Ek then went on to work at Tradera, a Swedish auction house. He also worked at Stardoll and later founded his own company, Advertigo, which was eventually acquired by TradeDoubler. He was also briefly the CEO of Torrent.
Daniel Eko’s love of music and ambition to establish a platform that outperforms piracy sites, while still providing legal and economic benefits to the music business, has led to to the birth of Spotify. Ek has partnered with another famous entrepreneur named Martin Lorenzon and Spotify was founded in 2006 with Ek and Lorenzon as co-founders. Spotify was launched in October 2008. Spotify has expanded greatly over the years and is now one of the largest providers of digital music streaming services in the world. Ek is married to Sofia Levander, a famous writer and journalist. The couple has two children.
