PEOPLE reports that the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that they are no longer investigating Perry’s death. The Los Angeles County medical examiner further revealed on its website that the case of Perry’s death is considered “closed.”

Matthew Perry tragically passed away on October 28, 2023 in the hot tub of his home in the Los Angeles area. The actor was 53 years old at the time of his death. Initially ruled a drowning, Perry’s autopsy report revealed that he had suffered from coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine. The death was considered accidental.

The report further noted that Matthew Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy. However, his most recent treatment was performed a week and a half before his death. The coroner stated: “The ketamine in his system at death could not have come from that infusion therapy, as the half-life of ketamine is 3 to 4 hours or less.”

Perry was reportedly clean for 19 months. The actor battled addiction and alcoholism in the past.

The actor was in a coma for two weeks and then spent five months in the hospital. He ended up having a colostomy bag for nine months.

“Doctors told my family I had a 2 percent chance of living,” Perry continued. “They put me on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for the heart and lungs. And that’s called Hail Mary. Nobody survives that.”

Regarding when his alcoholism first emerged, Matthew Perry added that it was when he was first cast. Friends. “I could handle it, more or less. But by the time I turned 34, I was really in a lot of trouble.”
