The Great British Baking Show Will Not Have National Themes This Season

The Great British Baking Show is learning from its past and has opted not to have any national themes in the upcoming season.

If you remember, the program was called last year during its Mexican-themed week.

The week’s challenges included pan dulce, tacos and tres leches cake, but what offended fans the most were the images, which included presenters wearing sarapes and hats, as well as mispronunciations of the dishes.

In a new interview, producer Kieran Smith confirmed that the show would skip topics related to that.

Speaking to The Guardian, he said that “we won’t do any national issues this year. “We didn’t want to offend anyone, but the world has changed and the joke fell flat.”

Instead, Kieran said: “We are doing all the usual weeks – cakes, biscuits, bread, pastries, chocolate and party cakes is a new theme. No spoilers, but it presents challenges that I think viewers will love.”

The Great British Baking Show will debut soon on Channel 4 in the UK, with its Netflix premiere yet to be determined.
