The 10 Funniest Naruto Episodes

Naruto is a shonen anime that offers up a mixed bag of emotions. On one hand, it can be very serious, featuring death scenes and plenty of tear-jerking moments.

But, on the other hand, it has comedic moments that are amusing to the point of making any viewer laugh. The Naruto anime has no shortage of funny episodes, and these ten episodes, in particular, are enough to put a smile on any Naruto fan’s face.

A Legend from the Hidden Leaf: The Onbaa!

Naruto makes an unlikely companion in the Onbaa, an animal creature that is native to Konohagakure. The Onbaa lands on Naruto after falling from the clutches of a hawk, and, much to Naruto’s chagrin, it becomes very attached. Nothing Naruto does is able to pry the Onbaa off his back.

As expected, the Oonba causes plenty of trouble for Naruto everywhere he goes. It causes Hinata to faint, pees on Naruto, and even gets a handful of Sakura’s breast. Naruto eventually gets free from the Onbaa when its mother claims it, but, when he returns from his mission, he witnesses an Onbaa outbreak at his village, with almost everyone having an Onbaa on their backs.

“Animal District”

A pack of angry-looking ostriches run towards something in Naruto.

An ostrich by the name of Condor recounts a story to a few baby ostriches about Naruto and how the ninja prevented him from enjoying his freedom. In his story, Condor escapes after being caught by Team 7 and teaches him ninjutsu for his own protection. Tsunade sends Naruto, Rock Lee, Shino, and Kotetsu to retrieve the ostrich from a wildlife preserve.

However, Naruto and the others wind up getting a bit more than they bargained for. Rock Lee and Shino fight against a boxing kangaroo and an anteater, respectively, while Kotetsu gets his butt kicked by Condor and nearly meets his end. It is also revealed that Condor has his own ninja group: the Four Ninja Animal Warriors.

“Laughing Shino”

Shino laughs uncontrollably in Naruto.

Naruto tags along with the usually stoic Shino on a mission to the Motoyoshi Village. In the village, Naruto and Shino help medical herb salesman Fūta Kagetsu with inheriting his father’s money before his sister gets a hand on it.

This episode is notable among Naruto fans for one thing – Shino’s contagious laughter. Shino consumes poison at a dinner to neutralize it, and he ends up laughing nonstop. So much that it disturbs Naruto greatly. Shino ends up laughing so much, that Naruto has to stand in for him at the funeral for Kagetsu’s father. For any Naruto fan, seeing a serious character like Shino laugh so much can be jarring to see.

“Run! The Curry of Life!”

Naruto characters looking at a plate of curry with scared expressions.

After discovering Rock Lee lying unconscious following a thunderous attack from Raiga Kurosuki, Tenten, Sansho, and a few others give the ninja the Curry of Life. The curry has an adverse effect on Lee, who acts very loopy throughout the episode.

The explanation for Lee’s behavior? A bottle of wine, which was knocked into the curry, as noted by Sansho. Yet, despite being intoxicated, Lee attempts to fight Raiga, only putting himself in harm’s way. Lee lands a Drunken Fist on Raiga, who finishes off the genin in a hurry.

Kakashi Hatake, the Hokage

Naruto Kakashi racing Might Guy.

As Naruto‘s Kakashi ponders over his future as a Hokage, he suddenly encounters his friendly rival Might Guy. Guy challenges Kakashi to a race, which Kakashi happily accepts. The two start at the entrance to the Leaf Village and race their way to the Hokage Rock.

In the end, Kakashi wins the race rather closely, having exhibited a little playfulness as he and Guy were neck and neck. This episode, which hints at Kakashi being the next Hokage, is memorable for also showing off the jonin’s affable side. Leave it up to Guy to bring out Kakashi’s inner child.

Several funny moments take place in this episode. Choji reveals himself to be a nuanced ramen critic, Naruto using Sakura’s angry fit to his advantage in order to perfect the ramen noodles. When Naruto and friends rescue Ayame, they discover that she ended up being fat from devouring the cooking-nin’s food.

“Naruto Vs Mecha-Naruto”

Naruto fighting against Mecha Naruto.

One of Naruto‘s most intelligent major villains, Orochimaru builds a robot replica of Naruto called Mecha-Naruto as a means to capture Kuruma. One day, lightning strikes Mecha-Naruto, which causes the robot to come to life and destroy Orochimaru’s lair. Itachi and Kisame discover the robot and bring it to a secret Akatsuki hideout so it could be retooled.

In “Naruto vs Mecha-Naruto,” Naruto and several other ninjas engage in a fight against Orochimaru’s robotic creation. There is even a Mecha-Kuruma, also built by Orochimaru, that joins in on the action, only adding to the episode’s hilarity.

Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei’s True Face!

Kakashi prepares to remove his mask in Naruto.

What Kakashi looked like under his mask has been an interesting topic in the Naruto anime. So much so that there is even an episode dedicated to it!

In “Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei’s True Face!,” Team 7 spends most of their time trying to see what Kakashi looked like under his mask. Arguably the funniest moment in the episode is when Naruto insinuates that Kakashi has either fat lips or buckteeth under his mask. This leads to some very amusing moments from Sasuke as he pictures Naruto’s insinuations in his head.

“The Worst-Three Legged Race”

Naruto and Sasuke run in opposite directions while attached at the hands

In this flashback episode, Team 7 is sent on a mission to retrieve a stolen statue from a band of thieves. During the mission, Sakura gets kidnapped by the thieves, and Naruto and Sasuke set out to rescue her.

However, there is one problem that Naruto and Sasuke happen to run into; their hands are stuck together due to Chakara Liquid. The two work together to pull the liquid off their hands, which leads to some humorous moments. One hilarious attempt by Naruto and Sasuke causes the two ninjas to accidentally kiss each other as they travel up a waterfall.
