About Stanley Myers
Stanley Myers, originally from Swansea, is the third military judge in the South Carolina National Guard and the first African-American to hold the position. Stanley Myers is a military judge, partner and attorney at Moore Bradley Myers and a lieutenant colonel in the South Carolina National Guard.
He has various high titles, but when asked how he prefers to be addressed, he says “only Stanley”. He attributes his humility to his family and roots in the Swansea and Calhoun County regions.
Myers’ dedication earned him an athletic scholarship to The Citadel, where he now serves on the Board of Visitors. As a four-year starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, he set multiple records. While he admits his record at the Citadel doesn’t compare to his high school success, his time at the military college proved significant.
He graduated from The Citadel in Political Science in 1998. He received his JD from the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law in Washington, DC in 2003.
Because of his siblings, Myers always wanted to be a lawyer. “I have two older brothers and an older sister,” Myers said. “They are 12, 13 years older than me. Every day I would come home from school and the shows that would be on would be Matlock or Perry Mason, so I guess, to some extent, I just kind of naturally said, ‘Well if I want to be something, maybe I should be a lawyer.’ “

Family mourns death of Stanley Myers
Stanley Myers’ death Wednesday morning at the age of 47 stunned the Citadel and the South Carolina legal community. Stanley Myers is survived by his wife Tashia Myers and two children.
Myers went for a run, returned home and was walking his dog when he collapsed in his yard, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, she said.
Myers, who graduated in 1998, played quarterback at The Citadel from 1995-1998 and was a member of the Board of Visitors, where he chaired the legal and athletic committees.
His classmates and teammates, including current Bulldogs coach Maurice Drayton, referred to him as “the epitome of the Citadel student” and “the quintessential Citadel man.”
