In 2019, Surendra Gill participated in the All India Inter University Championship (AIIU) in which he represented Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak and his team won the championship. After the championship, Surendra appeared for the Pro Kabaddi League trials and was then selected by the Lucknow-based Kabaddi team ‘UP Yoddha’ for Season 7 of the Pro Kabaddi League. Surendra played a total of 18 matches and his raid strike rate was 38% and tackle strike rate was 47%.

In 2021, Surendra was retained by ‘UP Yoddha’ for Season 8 of the Pro Kabaddi League, in which he played 23 matches and scored 198 points. His raid strike rate was 53% and tackle strike rate was 39%.

In the same year, he represented UP Yoddha BK Kabaddi Academy in the 38th All India Men’s Kabaddi Championship 2021 held in Gotegaon, Madhya Pradesh. Surendra scored 36 raid points and 23 effective points in the championship.
