  • In his childhood, he used to go to watch movies and theater plays with his father and from there he developed interest in Hindi films.
  • After acting in a few theater plays in his college, he realized that he was interested in film direction rather than acting.

    My friend Vinod Dua was interviewing Vidhu Vinod Chopra for Doordarshan and he asked me to ask questions to Vinod because I knew about films. Seeing my knowledge about films, Vinod asked me to come to Mumbai. He was making his first film at that time and I asked him, ‘What will I do?’ He said, ‘Learn to control the speed.’ I went to Mumbai and met generous people like Kundan Shah, Ketan Mehta, Javed Akhtar and Shekhar Kapur who became my family. Kundan used to come to my house where he started writing Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and I started writing the script with him.

  • He once shared that after his wife’s demise, he was so depressed that he even thought of committing suicide.
