Drew Barrymore is making it her mission to erase the stigma around menopause.
In a recent conversation, through PeopleThe 48-year-old talk show host has been open about her own perimenopausal experience, revealing that she’s ready to “rebrand” menopause to remove the negative connotations attached to it.

Following his now-viral moment of experiencing a hot flash on his talk show where Jennifer Aniston was a guest, Drew sat down with Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, Dr. Sharone Malone, Dr. Heather Hirsch, and Dr. Judith Joseph to talk . about the stigma surrounding the natural occurrence.
“There’s something about that stigma that I don’t want you to think I’m something dusty and old and dry. That’s not the image I want,” she shared. “I feel very confident, normally, and I want to be who I am and present myself. But at that moment I thought, I have to tell this story because it was a real life experience, I’m so proud to be here.”
Drew added: “I am an open book. But at that moment I thought, ‘I don’t want to say what it is, because I’m getting involved with someone that I want to see me in a certain way.
She also pointed out and opened up a conversation about how menopause could go through a “rebrand” in society.
“If Mark Zuckerberg could change Facebook’s name to Meta, maybe we can do this for menopause,” he says. “Because we have the word men-o-pause. The pause is a natural stop… for a lover that there may be something repellent in that subject. Whereas with no one else I find this topic taboo.”
Drew continued: “You’re just that old dry bag when you talk about menopause. And that’s the conversation, the stigma that has to change. We have to make it funnier, sexier and safer. Because the ‘aha moment’ is the safe”.
