Despite heavy criticism and the inevitable redesign of the eponymous character from the first film, Sonic was given more realistic facial features and proportions, Sonic Hedgehog was a huge box office success and was generally well received by fans and critics alike. By May 2020, the sequel was green-lit and Jeff Fowler returned to direct. In December 2021, Paramount released the first poster for the upcoming film, which depicts Sonic and his teammate Tails being chased by Dr. Robot. The first trailer also shows Knuckles as one of the film’s villains.

Jim Carrey’s doctor robot is not the subject of any memes. That could be because the evil scientist underwent a massive transformation to look more like his video game counterpart at the end of the first film. While trapped in the Mushroom Mountain area, thanks to Sonic’s efforts, Robot Nick shaved his head and grew a shaggy beard on his face allowing fans to see a more recognizable Nick Robot Dr. Ivo “Eggman”.
The edited poster is Sonic Hedgehog 2 A reminder of what happens when Hollywood makes a mistake. Putting the “Stone Fox” meme next to the globally mocked original Sonic design shows how awkward it really looks. While the background of the characters in live-action is based on solid principles, it’s a good reminder that just because something can be done, doesn’t mean it should be done. Despite the backlash, if anything, it’ll be interesting to see what the original Tails and Knuckles designs look like, but fans are sure to be glad they never showed up in the final version.
