Harry Styles Talks Filming His First Nude Scenes In Both Upcoming Movies

Singer turned actor Harry Styles opens up about the sex scenes he filmed for his upcoming movies Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman and how much nudity is involved. Styles’ career was launched into the stratosphere when he was a teenager. During his appearance on the British competition series The X Factor, he became a part of the boy band One Direction, which became a massive global phenomenon on the back of songs like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Night Changes.” When the band broke up, he went solo and became a famous pop singer in his own right, with songs like “Sign of the Times,” “Watermelon Sugar,” and “As It Was” tearing up the charts.

Now, Styles is branching out into acting after taking a minor role in Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk and evidently catching the acting bug. In addition to appearing in the post-credits scene of Eternals as Eros, Styles has two major films coming in 2022. Don’t Worry Darling, coming September 23, 2022, is a ’50s-set erotic thriller starring Florence Pugh as Styles’ wife, who realizes that the company town they have just moved to may hide a sinister secret. The other project is an adaptation of the Bethan Roberts novel My Policeman, coming fall 2022. My Policeman stars Styles as a gay policeman who is married to a woman but has a secret relationship with a male museum curator.

Per Variety, Styles sat down with Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show to discuss the sex scenes he has in both movies. He revealed that, while his character has sex in both, he is not nude in Don’t Worry Darling, which was directed by his current partner Olivia Wilde, whom he met on set. However, he is nude in My Policeman, though he “prenegotiated” that there’s “no peen” and that his privates would “remain his own.” However, he does tease that he shows “bum bum” and discusses the vulnerability that comes with filming a nude scene and how he attempted to help himself and his scene partners remain comfortable. It does feel vulnerable. I’d never kissed anyone on camera before and it felt like giving a part of myself away in some ways. I wasn’t naked in Don’t Worry Darling. I was naked in My Policeman. There’s no peen in the final cut. There’s bum bum…I don’t think the peen was intended to be involved.

I think the most important thing in that stuff is trust. I think if you speak about it properly with everyone that’s involved [that helps]. If you remember that the most important thing on the set is the two human beings doing it. If at any point either one of you is uncomfortable, I think having the conversation where it’s like, “It doesn’t matter if they’re getting great stuff, if you don’t feel good, you tell me and we’ll stop.”

Acting is kind of very uncomfortable at times. I think you have to trust a lot. It requires a lot of trust if you want to give it everything. I think being able to trust your director is a gift. That was very helpful. It really meant for kind of a really nice experience working on that movie.

Not only do both of Styles’ upcoming films feature sex scenes, but they both also seem to be specifically centered around themes of sexuality and eroticism. This may be because so far he is being largely cast in projects that take advantage of the singer’s rock star persona. His gender-bending, fashion-forward looks blend retro sensuality with modern maximalism, so it makes sense that his roles starting out would be very physical.

Despite putting him in similar on-set situations, Don’t Worry Darling and My Policeman otherwise couldn’t seem more different. One takes on a more thrilling approach closer to The Stepford Wives and the other focuses more on yearning drama closer to a movie like Call Me By Your Name. If Styles knocks it out of the park in both films, he will have cemented his range as an actor in the span of just a few months.
