Shawn Mendes has released his new song “Why the hell are we dying?” and you can listen to it here, in addition to reading the lyrics.
This is Shawn’s first new song to be released in over a year and marks his return to the music scene after taking a break last summer to focus on his mental health.
Shawn announced the song just hours before it dropped at the stroke of midnight on Friday morning (June 9). He received some criticism for making the artwork a photograph of the orange sky that covered New York City after the Canadian wildfires.
The artwork is appropriate for the song as it begins: “Smoke in the air, the city is burning / I want to talk but I don’t make a sound.”
Come in to listen to the new song…
Shawn sings in the chorus: “If we don’t love like we used to / If we don’t care like we used to / Why the hell are we dying? / If it doesn’t cut like before / If you’re not mine and I’m not yours / Why the hell are you dying?
