Shabnam Shakeel is an Indian cricketer, who plays for the Indian under-19 women’s cricket team primarily as a bowler. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pacer, Shabnam was part of the Indian team that won the inaugural Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in 2023.

Shabnam Shakeel, also known as Shabnam Mohammed Shakeel, was born on Sunday, 17 June 2007 (age 15 years; as in 2022) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Gemini. As of 2023, she is studying 10th class at Shiva Sivani School in Marripalem, Visakhapatnam. Shabnam Shakeel developed an interest in cricket at an early age after watching her father, who was a fast bowler, play club cricket. After seeing her passion for cricket, her father enrolled her in the NAD Academy in Visakhapatnam when she was eight years old. At the academy, he was trained by coach Nagaraju. Meanwhile, he also practiced cricket in the evening at the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) ground, where he was coached by Sathish Reddy and Krishna Rao.

Shabnam Shakeel’s father, Mohammed Shakeel, is a leading firefighter at INS Kalinga. His mother’s mother Eshwaramma works in the Indian Navy. Shabnam has a younger sister, Shahjahan Begum, who is a fast bowler and plays cricket for Under-15 Andhra Pradesh women.

Till 2021, Shabnam used to play cricket at the district level. In 2021, he made his under-19 debut for Andhra Pradesh. After excellent performance in the domestic tournament, Shabnam was selected for ZCA. He then played a few matches at the zonal level, where he caught the attention of the Indian selectors due to his ability to bowl at a speed of 110 kmph and was selected for a camp at the National Cricket Academy.

At NCA, Shabnam, along with 25 other girls, trained for the quadrangular series. In 2022, he was included in the India Under-19 squad that played against New Zealand in a five-match T20 series at the MCA Bandra Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai from 27 November 2022 to 6 December 2022. Meanwhile, she also played for India B Women Under-19 in the Women Under-19 T20 Quadrangular Series, which featured India A, India B, Sri Lanka and West Indies. In the series, Shabnam took two wickets in four overs against India A. He bowled 18 dot balls in the match. Soon, she got a place in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. Shabnam played only two matches in the tournament.
