Seinfeld/Kramer Meme Reaches New Heights With Attack of the Clones Joke

A recently popular meme taken from an episode of the successful ’90s sitcom Seinfeld has recently gone in a new direction with a Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones joke. The original framework for the meme comes from Seinfeld‘s season 8 episode entitled “The Chicken Roaster,” in which a Kenny Rogers’ Roasters sets up shop across from Kramer’s apartment. The restaurant’s massive neon sign bathes Kramer’s apartment in blindingly red light, causing problems for everyone.

The meme itself is taken from the Seinfeld scene in which Jerry inquires about the red light in Kramer’s apartment, and Kramer states “its the chicken roaster sign.” Internet users have become quite creative with the scene, finding different situations (often from famous movies) that may cause red light, and having Kramer deliver an appropriate punch line. The meme has become incredibly popular. In fact, a quick Google search will reveal hundreds of different versions of the meme, including examples from Twin Peaks, Dune, The Lord of the Rings and even The Matrix (with the meme color-corrected to green instead of red).

Now, it seems that the meme has finally reached the Star Wars universe. Star Wars fan community, The Star Wars Underworld, recently posted a new version of the meme on TwitterThe meme is shown in three panels, which depict Jerry and Kramer on the planet Coruscant. The first panel shows Jerry looking confused and asking “Kramer, what’s going on out there?” The following panel depicts the famous scene from the end of Attack of the Clones, in which the clones are shown preparing for battle en masse. The meme ends with Kramer replying, “the Clone War has begun, Jerry.” This, of course, is a hilarious reference to Yoda’s final line in the film. Check out the meme below:

Memes from the Star Wars prequel trilogy are, of course, some of the most popular memes on the internet. In fact, there are multiple subreddits devoted to their creation on Reddit. These range from the popular r/PrequelMemes, to r/raimiprequelmemes, in which users mash up scenes from the Star Wars prequels with scenes from Sam Raimi’s famous (and equally meme-worthy) Spider-Man trilogy. It’s almost a right of passage for a rising meme to become part of the Prequel Meme Catalogue, and it seems that this Seinfeld meme has been the latest to succeed.

There has been somewhat of a surge in Seinfeld memes on the internet recently. It is likely this is due to the fact that Netflix has recently begun streaming all 180 episodes of the series. It is very possible that this will not be the last time that fans will get to see Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer explore the world of the Star Wars prequels. In fact, there is likely a meme creator somewhere right now who is putting the finishing touches on a Seinfeld meme where Kramer opens the door and says in his best Obi-wan voice, “Hello there.”
