Sanju Vishwanath Samson was born on 11 November 1994 (age 28 years; as in 2022) in Pulluvila, Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram. Their zodiac sign is Scorpio. Samson was fond of cricket since childhood. Sanju spent his early childhood in the Police Residential Colony in the GTB Nagar area of North Delhi. He studied at Rosary Senior Secondary School, Delhi. Coach Yashpal trained Samson at his DAV School Academy in Shalimar Bagh in West Delhi. Sanju studied in Delhi till class 7. At the age of 11, Sanju joined the trials for the Delhi Under-13 team for the Dhruv Pandove Trophy. Although his father Vishwanath was confident that Sanju would be successful, he was disappointed when Sanju’s name was missing from the roster on the notice board outside the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. The father and son were surprised to see that the boys who were performing poorly had managed to get in. Fed up with the unfair treatment, Vishwanath consoled his son by feeding him pizza while returning home and decided to return to his ancestral home in coastal Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram. He started training under Ranji coach Biju Varghese (Biju George) at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Ground.

In Thiruvananthapuram, he attended St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School. Subsequently, he studied Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. He got recognition in junior cricket in Kerala. Former Indian batsman Sujit Somasundar noticed Samson’s talent soon after becoming the Kerala coach.

His father, Samson Vishwanath, is a former Delhi Police constable. A keen sportsman, Vishwanath played for Delhi in the 1994 football championship Santosh Trophy. Vishwanath took voluntary retirement from Delhi Police in 2009 and moved to Kerala with his family. He became a football coach in Kerala. His mother Lizzie Samson is a housewife. His elder brother Sally Samson is also a cricketer, who has played for the Kerala Under-25 cricket team. He also represented Kerala in junior cricket.

In 2007, he started his career as a cricketer when he was selected in the Under-13 Kerala cricket team. He captained Kerala in the 2007–08 KSCA Inter-State Under-13 Tournament and won the Player of the Tournament award after scoring 973 runs in five matches, including four centuries, at an average of 108.11. As a member of the Kerala Under-15 team for the 2008–09 Vijay Merchant Trophy, he scored a double century off 138 balls against Goa. He was also the captain of Kerala at Under-16 and Under-19 level. His remarkable performances in the 2010–11 Cooch Behar Trophy earned him a place in the India under-19 team.
