Biography/Wiki

Saina Nehwal was born on 17 March 1990 in Hisar, Haryana, India. His family currently resides in Hyderabad, India. She is also known as Steffi Saina by her mother, who is a big fan of tennis player Steffi Graf. When she was five years old, her family moved from Haryana to Hyderabad due to her father’s job. She started playing badminton to fulfill her mother’s dream, who wanted her to become a national level badminton player. He achieved great success in his badminton career and was honored with four prestigious awards by the Government of India, namely Arjuna Award in 2009, Padma Shri in 2010, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2010 and Padma Bhushan in 2016. Saina Nehwal started playing badminton at the age of 8 and received training in badminton under the guidance of Indian badminton coach SM Arif. He also received training from Pullela Gopichand, Nani Prasad Rao and Vimal Kumar.

Saina Nehwal entered active politics on 29 January 2020, when she joined the BJP amid the campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections. After joining the party Nehwal said,

I get a lot of inspiration from Narendra sir. I have won medals for the country. I am very hardworking and I like hardworking people. I can see that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does a lot for the country, I want to do something for the country with him.

Controversy

In January 2022, there was a war of words on Twitter between Saina and Tamil actor Siddharth over the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab.
