A blast from the past and a peculiar meeting of Just friends Stars Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart have taken the Internet by storm. The duo, who starred together in the 2005 Christmas comedy, reunited after 18 years for a slick commercial promoting Reynolds’ Aviation American Gin line.
In a hilarious meta twist, Reynolds and Smart adopted exaggerated versions of themselves in a commercial that seemed to tease a sequel to their popular romantic comedy. The spot begins with the actors reprising their roles as Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino, with Smart’s character returning home after a hard day at work, holding a bottle of Aviation American Gin.
“I have had better days. The bar was out of Aviation American Gin,” laments Smart. Reynolds, staying in character, mirrors his anguish and exclaims, “Oh, no, that’s so bad. That’s terrible. They’re out of Aviation American Gin!
However, things take a comedic turn when Smart, realizing the strangeness of the situation, calls for a cut and expresses his discomfort with the scene. Reynolds tries to reassure her, stating that the green screen behind them will look realistic in the final edit.
Despite multiple takes, Smart, questioning the authenticity of the setting, becomes suspicious. She confronts Reynolds and realizes that what they are filming is not a sequel but an advertisement for her gin brand.
In a hilarious exchange, Smart storms out, labeling Reynolds “dirty” for the deceitful act and joking, “You’re not my fucking hero!”
Reynolds shared the hilarious commercial on social media, humorously referring to it as a “SINGLE friend-giving miracle” on X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing his gratitude to Amy Smart.
The 2005 film Just friends centered on the character of Reynolds, a music producer, who tries to win the affection of his long-time crush. The comedy also starred Anna Faris and Chris Klein alongside Reynolds and Smart.
