I used to play cricket then and Sunday was no exception. After the game I was very tired and went home. Suddenly I got a call from him and realized that I had conveniently forgotten about the dinner plans. I apologized and we went on our first date.

Lavinia met an old friend and started talking. I found myself feeling very jealous. I realized that what I felt for him was more than friendship and we actually had our first fight. Television

He debuted as a child actor in the epic Hindi TV series ‘Mahabharata’ (1988), in which he played the role of young Balram. Talking about playing the character of young Balram in an interview, he said,

I was 14 years old when I played Balram in Mahabharata and it was completely magical. We all used to get a lot of feedback and messages through letters from fans. I was in school and every day I received bags full of letters. At the time, there was a photograph-autograph system with fan mail. So, fans would send me a blank envelope with a return stamp and they had to sign the photo and send it back with a letter. This was my daily routine. Before going to school, I used to sign my photographs and put them in envelopes. Every morning my father would give me a stack of envelopes with photographs to sign. It was an amazing time and I have a lot of memories from this show and I am glad that I am getting a chance to relive it on Colors.”

After about 12 years, he appeared in the episodic TV series ‘Ssssh…Koi Hai’. After this he appeared in some Hindi TV serials like ‘Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar’ (2002) and ‘Kusum’ (2003). Being typecast in a negative role never bothered me. Of course, I have played some nice guy roles too. But personally, I enjoy playing a bad guy on screen because then there is a lot to do in that character. Positive characters have their day and you cannot cross it. People have accepted me in a particular style and I am happy with it. In fact, whenever I get an offer from a bad guy, I get very excited about it. Producers have sometimes offered me positive roles too, but I have no objection to that. I am happy to be a professional villain on TV.

Controversy

He was rehired with the promise of shooting 20 days a month, but as the story of the serial progressed, his role in the TV serial started decreasing. Talking about this incident in an interview, he said,

My character was going nowhere. It was because of Associate Creative Head Shalu that I continued the show even after the leap. But these were all empty promises which achieved nothing. Shooting every day became humiliating, so I quit shooting. I am a senior actor and everyone should respect my honesty. Shalu doesn’t know how to carve a character.”

Later he tweeted,

I left the show, people were very unhappy with how my role was dismissed… RIP Adham/Haider Khan, it’s time to leave. I left my show 2 days ago, unhappy with the way I was lied to about my role.. It’s disgusting.

In 2022, when he was on the online TV series ‘Locked Up’, he talked about the fight. He said,

I realized that it was my mistake and I should not have been angry at that time. Anger is my weakness and I still feel bad about it. I regret my fight with Ekta. But life teaches you with every experience. When they called me for Chandra Nandani, I was happy that they still cared about me. No one wants to live in the past so forget what has passed and move forward. It was like calling home for me. I am having a great time shooting with the cast of Chandra Nandani. We shoot round the clock and give our best to the best of our ability.”
