Ryan Gosling recently shared that he is actively avoiding “dark roles” for the foreseeable future, for the sake of his family.
While Ryan’s infamous role in the Barbie movie was certainly more carefree, his performances as an actor aren’t always as joyful. For example, in 2012, he played a motorcycle stuntman turned criminal in the drama, the place Beyond the Pines.
In an interview with The Wall Street JournalRyan talked about how he now has to consider his family when choosing acting roles.
“The decisions I make, I make with Eva and we make them thinking about our family first,” he said, mentioning that he does not want to participate in roles that could negatively affect his mood at the end of the day. .

Ryan has two daughters, ages 8 and 9. He explained how his previous roles have impacted them personally. For example, when she starred The The Earth, It was a fun experience for his entire family.

“It was kind of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for [my kids] too,’ because even though they don’t come to the set, we practice piano every day or dance or sing,” he said.
Most recently, Ryan accepted a role in the 2024 action film, The scapegoat. In the movie, which came out today, she played a stunt double who essentially required being set on fire. However, her girls didn’t like the idea.
“Although I said, ‘Well, actually, technically it’s the safest because there are a lot of protective things involved,'” [they] They said, ‘No.’ No fire.’ So I didn’t,” she said.
