After establishing his career as a model, Rumi wanted to pursue acting, so he joined Delhi Music Theatre where he worked under Ivan Pulinkala.

Rumi Khan quits Dastaan-e-Kabul after the demise of co-star Tunisha Sharma
Rumi Khan came back to TV after 5 years in the role of villain in Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul, but shortly after starting the shoot of the show, Rumi quit the show and it happened just after the demise of the lead actress of the show, Tunisha Sharma, who hanged herself in the makeup room of the set of the show. This led everyone to wonder if there was a connection between the two events. But the rumours were shortly shut down by the actor himself, in an interview he said,
Before taking up the show, I had signed two movies for which I was required to travel outside for shoots. Since my character was pivotal, I was expected to allot a lot of days to it. As a result, it became difficult to manage my dates and balance all projects. So, after discussing with the makers, officially quit the show a few days ago. The producers have been quite understanding and would love to work with them again. My decision to quit the show has nothing to do with Tunisha’s tragic demise. She was like a kid to me. Before Ali Baba, I worked with her in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat and Sher-e-Punjab: Maharaja Ranjit Singh, in which she essayed my daughter. She would often tell me that I resembled her father, who she lost a few years ago. So, it instantly led to a beautiful deep bond between us.”
