After completing her education, she started her own apparel designing business in Lucknow. In 2005, he was offered a role in Ram Gopal Varma’s film ‘Sarkar’. When she heard that she would be acting opposite Amitabh Bachchan, she accepted the role. In 2020, he starred in his first web series, ‘The Gone Game’. It is a psychological thriller directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt during the lockdown. Its entire shooting was done at the homes of the respective artists. In an interview Rukhsar said,
I was apprehensive about shooting from home. However, my husband and daughter convinced me to take this step. It was a taxing process, but we had a lot of fun.”

From 2011–2013, she appeared in the recurring role of Dr. Mallika Trehan in the TV show, Kuch To Log Kahenge. In 2013, she appeared in the Life OK channel show ‘Tumhari Pakhi’.
