This week Netflix will premiere a new movie called Royalteen. Royalteen is a Norwegian film directed by Emilie Beck and Per-Olav Srensen, revolving around an incredibly dramatic teenage romance, following Prince Karl Johan (Mathias Storhi) and newcomer Lena (Ines Hysaeter Asserson) as they negotiate the complex worlds of love and class differences.
The film will be released overseas on August 17, 2022. Although Netflix hasn’t officially announced a release date, movies on Netflix typically begin around 3 a.m. EST in the United States. The film, written by Ester Grenersen, is based on the famous book Arvingen by Randi Fuglehaug and Anna Gunn Halvorsen. The series was created by Janne Hjeltnes of The Global Ensemble Drama.

Royalteen’s plot focuses on the growing romance between protagonist Lena and future king Karl Johan, a high-profile socialite from the busy world of media. The two characters of the series come from very different cultures and have quite different personalities, which creates potential tension in many situations. Royalteen teased when Karl entered the school, attracting the attention of everyone in the room. He walked in and sat next to Lena, a new student at the school. They started a discussion that quickly became lively and interesting. There’s obviously some romantic tension in the air.
According to the Daily Research Plot, the film’s official synopsis is as follows:
“Lena is well aware that seeing and associating with the heir to the kingdom could put them both in an unresolvable position, and she hasn’t told Kalle or anyone else about her even bigger secret, which is also the reason why she left her country. Will her big secret cause big trouble or will we see a happy ending for the prince and commoners?”
The problem in Karl and Lena’s relationship is pretty obvious. Since they come from two different worlds, it will be difficult for them to maintain a relationship, especially if they have to think about the future. In addition to social differences, Prince Karl Johan is a frequent target of controversy and debate online. Unbeknownst to the heir to the throne, Lena is a passionate writer who posts articles about him on her blog. Prince Karl also didn’t know that Lena simply had many secrets of her own.

On August 17, 2022, Netflix will release Royalteen. While an official time has not been set, the film will likely premiere around 12 a.m. PT or 3 a.m. ET.
