controversies

non bailable warrant

In May 2022, the Allahabad High Court issued a non-bailable warrant against Ritu Maheshwari after she failed to appear in court in a contempt of court case related to land acquisition. The court directed the police to produce him in the court next week. On 5 May 2022, Justice Saral Srivastava issued the order in response to a contempt petition filed by Manorama Kuchhal and another person whose land was acquired by the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) in 1990. He said that he did not get proper compensation. On 28 April 2022, the court fixed the matter for hearing on 4 May 2022, and Ritu was directed to appear; However, despite receiving summons, she did not appear during the hearing. The Court said,

Considering the fact that the order of the Writ Court has not been complied with despite the fact that the possession of the land of the applicants was illegally taken over by NOIDA in the year 1990 without paying a single penny as compensation. When the Court summoned the CEO, Noida in contempt proceedings, she did not appear before the Court when the matter was taken up, due to which her counsel requested the Court not to take up the matter till she reaches the Court, as her flight is delayed, this Court observed that such conduct of the CEO, Noida amounts to willful and deliberate disrespect to the Court, as an officer of the rank of Chief Executive Officer of a corporation expected the Court to take up the matter at its mercy , Therefore, this Court considers it a fit case where there is non-BA. Illegal warrant to be issued against CEO, Noida.

sentenced to prison

As per reports, in January 2023, Ritu Maheshwari was sentenced to one month in jail, and an arrest warrant was issued by the Greater Noida Police Authority. He was sentenced to jail in a plot allotment and a case involving the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). The case was filed almost 18 years ago, pertaining to an incident that took place in 2001. The case was filed against Ritu and GNIDA when a person named Mahesh Mitra applied for a plot of land in 2001; However, the GNIDA did not allot the land to Mitra, so he filed a case in the District Consumer Forum in 2005. As per the agreement, GNIDA was to allot a plot of land between 1000 to 2500 square meters to Mitra; However, the allotment did not happen, leading to a legal dispute. The Greater Noida Authority was also directed to pay all the legal expenses related to the case. As a result, GNIDA approached the State Consumer Commission, which ruled in 2010 that the registration amount of Rs 20,000 paid by Mitra to the development authority would be refunded to him. In 2014, the National Consumer Commission got involved in the case and ruled in favor of Mahesh Mitra. On 14 July 2017, the bank accounts of GNIDA were attached by the District Consumer Forum. In response, the Greater Noida Development Authority opposed this action and appealed to the State Consumer Commission. Thereafter, the State Commission quashed the decision issued by the District Consumer Forum. Later, the District Consumer Forum issued an order in the matter, which resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Ritu Maheshwari. He was fined Rs 2000 and a warrant was sent to Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner to arrest him.
