Rishi Kapoor was an Indian actor, director and producer famous for his work in Hindi cinema. Rishi Kapoor has received several notable awards for his acting skills in the Bollywood industry.

Early life and childhood

Rishi Kapoor was born on September 4, 1952 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, into a Punjabi family. His full name is Rishi Raj Kapoor. Likewise, his father’s name was Raj Kapoor, an actor and director, and his mother’s name was Krishna Raj Kapoor. He was the second child in the family.

Similarly, his grandfather’s name was Prithviraj Kapoor. He had four brothers; two brothers named Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, both actors. He had two sisters, insurance agent Ritu Nanda and the late Rima Jain. Likewise, his paternal uncles, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, and his maternal uncles, Prem Nath, Rajendra Nath, Narendra Nath and Prem Chopra, were all actors.

Recently, he was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai on April 29, 2020 due to difficulty in breathing. Unfortunately, he left the world due to complications from bone marrow cancer with shocking news for his fans on April 30, 2020 at the age of 67.

Talking about Rishi Kapoor’s acting career, he debuted in the entertainment industry at the age of three with an appearance in his father’s film Shree 420.

1970s to 1999 (lead role)

In 1970, he debuted in his father Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker’. In the film, he plays the child role of his father. His father wanted to make a teenage love story and did not have enough money to hire Rajesh Khanna for the film. From 1974 to 1981, he starred with his future wife Neetu Kapoor, but the duo did not perform as expected. His film along with Neetu Kapoor was only successful in multi-starrer films including Amar Akbar Anthony, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Khel Khel Mein, Kabhie Kabhie, Duniya Meri Jeb Mein. His other film in a lead role with Neetu Kapoor was a flop: Anjane Mein, Jhoota Kahin Ka, Zehreela Insaan, Zinda Dil, Doosra Aadmi, Dhan Daulat.

In the 90s, she appeared in films like Deewana, Damini and Eena Meena Dika which were successful. Likewise, her leading role films were Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, Badalte Roshtey, Aap Ke Deewane and Saagar and then in the 90s with Chandni, Deewana (1992), Damini (1993) and Gurudev (1994). 2000-2020 (secondary role)

In 2000, he appeared as the romantic lead in the film ‘Karobaar: The Business of Love’, which was a flop. After several box office failures as a lead role, he began acting in supporting roles in the 2000s.

Since then, he has appeared in films such as Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002), Hum Tum (2004), Fanaa (2006), Namastey London (2007), Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Patiala House (2010). She even appeared in the British films Do n’t Stop Dreaming (2007) and Sambar Salsa (2008).

In 2010, he reunited on screen with Neetu Singh in the film Do Dooni Chaar. He acted in the film Chintu Ji in which he played himself. In 2012, he made his appearance in a villainous role in Agneepath and in the multi-starrer film Housefull 2. In Housefull 2, he appeared with his brother Randhir Kapoor for the first time after ‘Khazana’ in the mid-1980s. He even performed a cameo in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan along with his wife.

In 2018, he starred in 102 Not Out, a comedy-drama film directed by Umesh Shukla. Also, in this film, she reunited with Amitabh Bachchan after 27 years.

In 2019, she appeared in his two films, Jhootha Kahin Ka, a comedy-drama film, and The Body with Emraan Hashmi, a mystery thriller film. The Body with Emraan Hashmi released on December 13, 2019, and incidentally, it was her last film released before his death on April 30, 2020.
