Rhys Ifans was born in Haverfordwest, Wales on 22 July 1967 to Beti-Wyn and Eurwyn Evans. His parents are also educators. Ifans grew up in the Welsh county of Pembrokeshire. Ifans enjoyed performing from an early age and is said to have studied acting at Theatr Clwyd. He later graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Rhys Ifans began her career in theatre. He experimented with television before turning to film, starring in the comedy series Spatz, Trial & Retribution and Screen Two. He became known for playing Spike in Julie Roberts and Hugh Grant’s Notting Hill, considered by many to be one of the most iconic romantic films of all time. He has starred in a number of notable films over the years, including The Amazing Spider-Man, Hannibal Rising and The Phantom of the Opera, to name a few.
Ser Otto Hightower, played by Rhys Ifans in House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, is a complicated character. Hightower became the King’s Hand after Baelon Targaryen died. Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Hightower, is another complicated character that will likely be one of the main antagonists of the series.
