- Renu lost her husband Yashpal Sharma on 13 July 2021. Yashpal died of a heart attack at the age of 66. His last rites took place at Lodhi cremation ground in New Delhi. His former teammates like Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma were also among the mourners.
- Her husband was an active player of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team. Yashpal played all eight matches (from India’s campaign) during the 1983 World Cup. In 2021, a Hindi film titled ’83’ was released; Shows the story of India’s incredible Cricket World Cup win in 1983. Indian actor, Jatin Sarna played the role of Yashpal in the film.
