2009 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election
Ravi Rana contested the 2009 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election as an independent candidate from the Badnera Assembly constituency in the Amravati district of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. He won the election by defeating NCP candidate Sulabha Khodke by 18771 votes. In the elections, a coalition government of Congress and NCP was formed and Ashok Chavan (of Congress) became the Chief Minister.

Ravi Rana contested the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election as an independent candidate from Badnera Assembly constituency. She won the election by defeating Shiv Sena candidate Preeti Band by a margin of 15541 votes. Later, he offered unconditional support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government in the state after the elections. Arrested during farmers’ protest (2011)
In 2011, Rana was arrested and lodged in Central Jail Amravati for his participation in the farmers’ agitation demanding better remunerative prices for raw cotton. Rana, along with his wife and Yuva Swabhimani Organization, had started the protest against the government in support of increasing the minimum guaranteed price of raw cotton from Rs 3,300 to Rs 6,000 per quintal. While he was in jail, he went on an indefinite hunger strike over this issue, due to which his health deteriorated. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan’s emissary and Maharashtra’s Industries Minister Narayan Rane spoke to Rana on telephone and persuaded him to end his fast, but Rana refused to budge.
Clash with Shiv Sena district chief Dinesh Boob (2019)
After the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections, Ravi Rana assaulted Shiv Sena’s Amravati district chief Dinesh Boob. Reportedly, the leader was attending an event at an old age home when Ravi Rana accused the Shiv Sena leader of using abusive language while talking about his MP wife Navneet Rana. On 12 January 2022, Rana was placed under house arrest under Section 144 of the CrPC for installing a statue of Shivaji Maharaj on the Rajapeth flyover in Amravati, on the occasion of the birthday of Shivaji Maharaj’s mother. Police Commissioner Aarti Singh claimed that Rana and his followers had illegally encroached on the flyover to install the statue. Following the incident, Yuva Swabhiman Party workers burnt the effigy of Amravati Municipal Corporation Commissioner Praveen Ashtikar in front of Rana’s house in protest against the removal of the statue.

Ravi Rana was charged with attempt to murder in 2022 over the attack on the Amravati Municipal Commissioner. Arrested in Hanuman Chalisa controversy (2022)
On 23 April 2022, Rana and his wife, Navneet Kaur Rana, were arrested by Mumbai Police and sent to 14 days judicial custody on the orders of a local magistrate for chanting Hanuman Chalisa in front of Matoshree, the residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray.
