Ramachandran Ramesh is an Indian chess grandmaster. In 2002 he won the British Championship and in 2007 he won the Commonwealth Championship. He is best known for his commentary on the World Chess Championship match 2013. He is known by his aliases RB Ramesh and Master Shifu.

At the age of 22, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) asked Ramesh to accompany the Indian junior team to the Asian Junior Championship in Iran. Ramesh’s wife, Aarti, was part of the team. Upon returning, Aarti’s parents requested Ramesh to help Aarti practice chess as there was no formal chess coaching or teacher at that time. For a year, they played chess together and later, Aarti won the World Under 18 Championship, which attracted a lot of media attention and brought many new young players to take coaching from Ramesh. After this, he started working personally with many players at his home. During his career as a professional chess player, he earned several titles, including FIDE Master (FM) in 1995 and International Master (IM) in 1996. In 1996 he was also a part of the Indian chess team. As a professional chess player, he won several chess tournaments such as the British Championship in 2002 and the Commonwealth Championship in 2007. In 2004, he became a Grandmaster, a title awarded to chess players by FIDE, the world chess organization. His world ranking is 1218.
