Submarines (UC1 Freya)
Peter was interested in rockets and submarines from a very young age and after completing his schooling, Peter attended several courses in welding and engineering to learn more about submarines and rockets. Madsen did not have a proper job, so all his projects were financially supported by people, organizations and enterprises who saw potential in them. Peter began building submarines, and the first private Danish submarine built was Freya or UC1 Freya, built by Peter Madsen and Claus Nørgaard in 2001–2002. The submarine made 500 dives and was retired from service.

The second project work by Peter and Klaus was Kraka or UC2 Kraka, a diesel-electric midget submarine. The project was completed in 2005, and the submarine had a length of 12.6 meters and a displacement of six tons. The submarine was powered by a 16hp diesel engine and 8hp electric motor. The submarine is on display at the Technical Museum of Denmark in Elsinore, Denmark.
UC3 Nautilus
The UC3 Nautilus was a midget submarine built in 2008 by Peter Madsen with the help of several other volunteers. The submarine’s construction cost was approximately $200,000, and it could accommodate four to eight people, depending on whether it was diving or surface operating. , In August 2017, the submarine was seized by authorities as Peter Madsen was convicted of the murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall.
