Beanie Feldstein just announced on Instagram that she will be performing her final performance as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl on July 31st. In an emotional statement, she said she would be leaving “sooner than planned”. She noted on Instagram that playing Fanny Brice on Broadway is her “lifetime ambition.” She also praised the show’s cast and crew for their “love and support.” The actress went on to praise the cast and crew of Funny Girl for being “very brilliant and amazing people.”

Funny Girl producers are reportedly considering Lea Michele as a replacement. The announcement came after the controversial personality auditioned for the role of Fanny Brice in the fourth season of Glee on Broadway. Meanwhile, Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy was also awarded the rights to revive the musical, but lost them in 2015.
Lea Michele has already expressed interest in playing Fanny Brice in Murphy’s version. She stated:
“I was talking to Ryan Murphy the other night. I had a show in Central Park where I sang nine songs of Funny Girl, and then I turned to Ryan and said, ‘OK, I’m ready to do it.’ It’s a big effort, but it would be an honor. But if I’m going to go back to musicals, that’s what I’d like to do.”
Netizens are reacting to Lea Michele’s role in the Broadway production of Funny Girl.
Internet fans were shocked to see the 35-year-old actress take on the iconic role once played by Barbra Streisand. This followed allegations that the former harassed her female colleagues. Samantha Ware, another Glee star, has accused Lea Michele of being a “living nightmare since her TV career.” Ware also claimed that the actress threatened to “s**t in my wig” and caused “other terrible microaggressions” during filming.
Dabier Snell, who starred in a 2014 episode of Glee, has already tweeted about Lea Michele. Snell stated:

She was also accused of abusing Naya Rivera, who died in 2020. Rivera said in her book Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up that Michele “didn’t enjoy being in the spotlight.”

Rivera continued:
“If I grumbled about anything or anyone, she imagined I was complaining about her.” Soon she started to ignore me and in the end she didn’t say anything to me for the whole sixth season. On the other hand, Lea was much more sensitive and it seemed like she blamed me for everything that went wrong.”
Lea Michele has also been criticized for the first time for not posting a meaningful message on social media following Rivera’s horrific death. She did, however, tweet a photo with a short statement honoring her late co-star, which was later removed when Michele canceled her Twitter account.
With so much hate directed at the actress in recent years, many thought she wasn’t right for the lead role in the musical Funny Girl. Some joked that Michele could not wait to get the job after auditioning for it on the popular show Glee. According to one Twitter user, if the actor appeared in Funny Girl, the microblogging site would be “on fire”.
Some readers also expressed concern that things would become “a lot less hilarious” if Michele starred in the Broadway production. Another Twitter user compared the controversial performer to Ariel from The Little Mermaid. They said that, like Ariel, Michele made a “deal with the devil.” Casting for the Broadway production of Funny Girl is set to be announced Monday at 1:00 PM ET.
