Pappalpreet Singh is a self-styled video journalist and Sikh activist. He is considered to be the right hand man of pro-Khalistan leader and fugitive Amritpal Singh. He was also reportedly associated with ISI in Pakistan. On 10 April 2023, he was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) by Amritsar Rural Police from Kathu Nangal area of Amritsar, Punjab.

S. Pappalpreet Singh aka Pappalpreet Singh was born in 1985 (age 38 years; as of 2023) in Majitha, Amritsar, Punjab, India. She did her schooling in a convent school. Reportedly, in 2015, he pursued a three-year polytechnic diploma from the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, Amritsar, Punjab. Later he did Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science.

In 2007, two events that changed Papalpreet’s life were when Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh Rajoana were sentenced to death in the murder of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to death for his clothes. By wearing it he had insulted the Sikh Gurus. Emerged as Guru Gobind Singh. He then decided to leave his job and work for the welfare and protection of Sikh culture and became a Sikh activist. Later, he joined the Sikh Youth Front and Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala. Gradually he started supporting the Khalistani movement. In 2015, he came into limelight at Sarbat Khalsa, a biennial deliberative gathering of Sikhs held in Amritsar, in which he read out the charge sheet of terrorist Narayan Singh Chaura against the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal. During the speech he even said that Khalistan is the only solution to all the problems related to Sikhs. Later a case was registered against him for organizing Sarbat Khalsa. However, in 2018, the case was dropped on the recommendation of Justice Mehtab Singh Gill Commission.

In 2016, he joined the Indian political party Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by Simranjit Singh Mann. Pappalpreet had campaigned for Mann in the 2017 assembly elections. However, in the same year Papalpreet resigned from the party.

Papalpreet Singh has started a website ‘Punjab Shield’ which is a pro-Khalistani news website and a monthly magazine named ‘Dharma Yudh’. According to his mother, he was a member of the panchayat in his village.

Arrested by police under various cases
In 2015, he was arrested for reading the charge sheet of terrorist Narayan Singh Chaura during Sarbat Khalsa, a biennial deliberative gathering of Sikhs held in Amritsar. In the same year, he was charged under Section 107/151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for preventing Sikh activists from participating in a protest being organized on the premises of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana.

In 2019, when Pappalpreet Singh was working against drug smugglers in his village, his group had a fight with supporters of drug smugglers. Later, Papalpreet and his group members were booked under section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder. Later, Singh claimed that his name was wrongly dragged into the case as he was sitting at his home at the time of the fight. He also asked the local police to remove his name from the FIR.

In 2023, he was booked in four criminal cases by the Amritsar Police. In one case, the Income Tax Department had issued a notice against Papalpreet in which he was marked as high risk-CRIU (Case Related Information Upload). He was also asked to reveal the source of unaccounted income of Rs 4.48 lakh. The Income Tax Department said that Pappalpreet has not filed his returns for the financial year 2019-20. According to media sources, in 2023, when Pappalpreet and Amritpal were escaping from the police, they placed a bag near a woman named Baljeet Kaur in Shahabad, Kurukshetra (where they took refuge for a day) and asked her to pick up someone. He (Papalpreet) is the main associate of Amritpal Singh. He has been arrested from Kathunangal area of Amritsar. Pappalpreet has been detained under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and six other cases have also been registered against him. Further legal action will be taken against him as per law.
