Bad boy Nathan Scott has gone from hero to villain and back more times than we can count One Tree Hill Going out, it’s one of the many reasons fans are drawn to him.
But as we’ve noted, he doesn’t give us much of a reason to trust his judgment from the pilot until the show’s final episode. Today, we want to explore some of the reasons why Nathan isn’t perfect and why he sometimes makes us want to scream angrily in front of the TV.

bully Lucas
Due to not being raised well by his father, Dan Scott, Nathan has clearly played a bully from the pilot onwards.
One of the victims was his brother Lucas. Although Lucas stayed with the team forever, Nathan continued to pursue him as best he could. It shows that he is a boy, not a man, and in fact his eventual transformation for the better.
Carrie
Ah, Carrie. As the show goes on, the crazy babysitter gets crazier. The final plot has more dark turns, but in the beginning, she’s nothing more than a kind nanny who helps with the housework. Of course, that’s only if she takes action against Nathan.
While you’d think he’d never thought of pursuing her, the biggest problem came when she kissed him on the lips and he didn’t tell Hayley that it happened. She really deserves better.
married too young
No one can tell anyone what to do if they don’t want to, but looking back, we still think it was a mistake that Hayley and Nathan married so young.
Having children is indeed an inevitable event, but aspects of the proposal and the eventual marriage are the most questionable. It was an impulsive decision that many of their friends and family simply disagreed with, and you can feel it when the normally calm Deb completely loses control after being informed.
disrespect his mother
Speaking of Deb, she went through a lot of changes in the previous seasons, especially the first one.
Her problems seem to get worse as time goes on, but in the first episode, she never really seems to be able to rest. Due to her frequent travel, she is often looked down upon, which affects her relationship with Nathan. He doesn’t seem to really respect her. Of course, she also has flaws, but this is simply rude.
Anger destroys NBA prospects
Even after the score was cut, Nathan Scott could still return in hopes of becoming an NBA star during the 4-year break between Seasons 4 and 5.
Then, in an extremely strange moment of rage, he let some swindlers get past him and engage in a seriously misdirected fight. He was eventually thrown out the glass window, landing awkwardly in the process. This move changed his life for a long time, even leaving him in a wheelchair at one point.
father’s influence
It’s not exactly Nathan’s fault, but you have to imagine his life would be very different if Dan Scott wasn’t around. While there’s a lot to be said about how Dan has helped his son over the years, especially after four years of diving, the mental torment he endured is likely to haunt Nathan for a long time.
He may have become a better person in many ways, but we still resent Dan for making Nathan go through something.
use hayley
Before Nathan and Hayley fell in love and became the most beautiful couple in the series (depending on your personal judgment), Nathan’s sole purpose was to use Hayley to get revenge on Lucas.
This dynamic is evident from the moment the two actually meet and it takes a few episodes for Nathan to truly accept his feelings. By then, everyone could clearly see Hailey’s skepticism – and while that might not sound too important, we were all shocked to learn that he wasn’t any worse off cheating on her than he really was.
not a natural leader
When Lucas and Peyton decided to leave the show at the end of the sixth season, the natural next step was to make Nathan the showrunner. That’s exactly what happened, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have the same appeal.
As the series goes on, Nathan’s story certainly has real intent, but it doesn’t quite fit in with protagonist Lucas. No one can deny the attraction behind Nathan and Hayley’s relationship when both were born for each other. However, this is not enough.
selfishness early on the field
When you want to be signed by a prestigious university, the natural thought process is to save all the best photos and moments for yourself. Well, that’s exactly the path Nathan Scott decided to take during the show’s first few seasons.
What Nathan is really famous for in basketball is teamwork, but that didn’t show up anytime soon. He wanted all the glory, and because he knew how good he was when it mattered most, he basically let it go.
shaving point
Getting into financial trouble is an embarrassing situation for anyone, especially if you’re young, trying to finish high school, married, have a home and kids, and you’re looking for a state championship.
Nathan Scott decided to dance with the devil, accepting money in exchange for scoring a few points for the Tree Hill Ravens. In another world, it would end his basketball career forever — but at One Tree Hill, Whitey gave him an important lifeline.
