Om Raut is an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best known for directing the 2020 cult film Tanhaji, for which he won the Best Popular Film Award at the 68th National Film Awards. He is the director of the 2015 film Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush, which won him several awards and accolades. In 2022, Om Raut came into controversy when the teaser of his film Hindu mythological film Adipurush was released in the media. The film was an adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana and was accused of tampering with the original characters. Indian actor Prabhas played the role of Lord Ram in the film.

Om Raut was born on Tuesday, 21 December 1981 (age 41 years; as in 2022) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He completed his schooling from Balmohan Vidyamandir, Mumbai, India. Soon after completing his schooling, Om Raut joined the Shah and Anker College of Engineering in Mumbai to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering. Om Raut started working in the Bollywood film industry as a child artist. As a child, he appeared in several theater plays and ad films. He made his film debut in 1993 with the film Karamati Kot, in which he appeared as a child artist Raghu, playing the lead role. Reportedly, Om Raut’s mother Neena Raut introduced him to the world of entertainment and cinema during his childhood.

Controversy
In 2022, Om Raut became embroiled in a controversy when a case was filed against him in the Delhi High Court over actor Saif Ali Khan’s look in the film Adipurush, in which Saif played Ravana. In October 2022, his mythological drama film ‘Adipurush’ was accused of hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. It was claimed that the film’s promotional video misrepresented Hindu deities in an “unfair” and “wrong” manner. Soon after the allegations, Om Raut mentioned in a media conference that all the allegations against him were baseless, and that the makers of the film represented Ravana’s form in relation to today’s times. Om Raut said,
In today’s time, our Ravan is demonic, cruel. The one who has abducted our goddess Sita is cruel. We have shown how Ravana looks in today’s time. This is not a film or a project for us but a mission. Our film is a symbol of our devotion and for this we need everyone’s blessings.”
Om Raut also said in the same discussion that this film is just a translation from the books to celluloid. om quoted,
I don’t want anyone to misunderstand that we have changed it. It is like translating from books to celluloid. So this is not a film for us. It is a representation of our bhakti, shraddha (devotion and faith) and what we stand for.
