Not long after claiming he planned to fight Ron Goldman’s family over money OJ Simpson was ordered to pay them more than 25 years ago, the late disgraced athlete’s executor is walking back his comments.
Nearly two years after being acquitted of murder, Simpson was held responsible for the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. The retired NFL star was ordered to pay $33.5 million to his family.
He never paid the families and his executor, Malcolm LaVergne, recently stated that he had no plans to pay the Goldman family what they are owed.
“Them specifically,” LaVergne told the Las Vegas Review-Journal of the Goldmans. “And I will do everything in my capacity as executor or personal representative to try to ensure that they don’t get anything.”
Their animosity towards the Goldmans was originally due to them owning the rights to OJ Simpson’s 2007 “hypothetical” crime book. Yes, I do. After acquiring the rights, the Goldmans changed the book’s title to If I did: murderer’s confessions and made the “Yes” smaller than the other words on the cover of the book.
However, it seems that LaVergne has changed his mind on the situation. he told the hollywood reporter The claim made by Ron Goldman’s father, Fred, will be accepted. “And his claim will be handled in accordance with Nevada law,” he explained.
OJ Simpson’s executor claims his first comments were in response to Fred Goldman’s lawyer ‘Talking S—’
LaVergne further admitted to the media outlet that his comments about the Goldmans were more in response to the family’s attorney saying something immediately after OJ Simpson’s death was announced.
“Within an hour of finding out that OJ had died, he started talking s—,” LaVergne said of Goldman’s lawyer. “My defender instinct was, ‘Oh, you’re going to keep fucking him up even after he’s dead?’ Well, you know? You get nothing.’ And those were my comments then.”
LaVergne later said he “walked back” on the comments because they were “harsh.” “And now I’m going in the other direction.”
The executor of Simpson’s estate also stated that he planned to be “hyper-transparent” with the Brown and Goldman families. He also said that he wanted to invite Goldman’s mother and the person who controls Brown’s estate to a meeting at his office.
“I’m going to show my duties before I have to present them to court,” he added. “And see what we can do to put this heritage in order.”
OJ Simpson died on Wednesday, April 10 after a battle with prostate cancer.
