Nitin Menon is an Indian umpire and former right-handed batsman. He comes from a family of cricketers and came into limelight in 2020 by becoming the youngest umpire to be included in the ICC (International Cricket Council) elite panel of umpires.

Nitin Menon represented Madhya Pradesh team in List-A cricket. He played two matches in the Ranji One-Day Trophy; Madhya Pradesh vs Vidarbha on 8 January 2004, and Madhya Pradesh vs Uttar Pradesh on 9 January 2004. He also played in the under-16, under-19 and under-23 categories.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Nitin became a state-panel umpire in Madhya Pradesh in 2005. He passed the BCCI All India Umpiring Examination in 2006 and began officiating domestic matches in the 2007–08 season. He made his international debut on 26 January 2017 during the England vs India Twenty20 match at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. It was part of India’s tour of England, the 3-match series was won by India 2–1. On the second day of the series, Nitin took over the responsibility of TV (third) umpire.
Nitin made his ODI (One Day International) debut on 15 March 2017 during the Afghanistan vs Ireland match at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. He supervised as a TV umpire on the second day of the 3-match series. On November 27, 2019, Nitin made his Test match debut during the Afghanistan vs West Indies match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow and became India’s 62nd Test match umpire.
In October 2018, Nithin was selected as one of the 12 on-field umpires for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20. He also umpired on the field during the Indian Premier League 2019. However, during the 2021 season, he had to leave midway because his mother and wife tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. In February 2020, the ICC (International Cricket Council) appointed her to oversee Australia’s matches at the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
In June 2020, at the age of 36, Nitin was promoted to the ICC Elite Panel of umpires. He replaced England’s Nigel Long and became the third Indian umpire to be included in the panel. In an interview on his selection he said,
It is a matter of great honor and pride for me to be named in the elite panel. Officiating on a regular basis alongside the world’s leading umpires and referees is something I have always dreamed of and the feeling has yet to hit home.”
Menon was praised by the cricket world for his umpiring during England’s tour of India in March 2021.

His dream of officiating as an umpire in the Ashes comes true in June 2023; He took over the series from day three. Discussing this in an interview he said,
I am also very excited about it because this was my dream. I couldn’t do the last Ashes because it was during Covid. So I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully I’ll give my best performance there.”
