Nitin Kumar Dhankar was born on Monday, 21 May 2001 (age 22 years; as of 2023) in Kaloi, Jhajjar, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Gemini. According to Nitin Kumar, after losing his father at a young age, his uncle was instrumental in helping him establish a career in Kabaddi. In a media interaction, he mentioned about staying strong despite facing difficult situations, and that his uncle Tejpal Singh inspired him to pursue a career in Kabaddi. He said in the same discussion that in 2017, he was enrolled in the Narwal Kabaddi and Sports Academy in Haryana, where he received Kabaddi training from Naresh Narwal, known for coaching the famous Indian Kabaddi player Pradeep Narwal. Nitin Kumar also shared that he started playing Kabaddi in class ten because he was not excelling in his studies. He said,
I started playing Kabaddi after 10th class. I was not that good in studies. I am from Haryana and I started training at Pradeep Narwal Academy under the guidance of coach Naresh Narwal.

He also won the ‘Best Raider of the Match’ title during the Youth Kabaddi Series in Ranchi with Hampi Heroes, making him one of the most successful players in the history of the league.
