Mithali Raj is an Indian cricketer who is famous as the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She is often called ‘Lady Sachin’. He retired from international cricket in June 2022.

Mithali Raj made her One Day International debut on 26 June 1999 against Ireland at Milton Keynes and scored 114 not out. He made his Test debut on 14 January 2002 against South Africa in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Mithali made her T20 debut on 5 August 2006 in the derby against England. He announced his retirement from T20 Internationals on 3 September 2019.

- She was involved in a dispute with the cricket management due to her attitude towards the game during the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20. Mithali, in a letter to BCCI, accused Ramesh Powar and BCCI COA member Diana Edulji of being biased towards her for not including her in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. In response, Ramesh criticized him and said that he had threatened to retire from cricket when he was asked to play lower in the batting order. “Despite being a senior player in the team, she gives minimal input in team meetings. She could not understand the team’s plan and could not adapt to it. She ignored her role and struggled for her own milestones. “Lack of maintaining pace was putting extra pressure on other batsmen.”
- It is said that Mithali’s relationship with T-20 cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur is also strained.

- She holds the record for the second highest score in women’s Test cricket with 214 runs against England in the second and final Test at Taunton in 2002.

- In July 2017, she became the highest run-scorer in Women’s ODI, surpassing England’s Charlotte Edwards (5992 runs).

- On 3 July 2021, during the third and final ODI against hosts England, Mithali overtook former England batsman Charlotte Edwards’ record of most international runs by surpassing Edwards’ 10,273 runs. Mithali achieved this feat by playing an important inning of 75 not out while chasing the target of 220 runs and helped India win by 4 wickets. On July 5, 2021, BCCI celebrated Mithali’s achievement through a special tweet.

- Mithali’s mother Leela calls Mithali’s entry into cricket a complete coincidence. As she grew up, she followed her brother Mithun in everything he did. Soon, he started developing interest in cricket by attending coaching classes at 6 am in the morning with his brother at St. John’s Cricket Academy, Secunderabad.

- When Mithun and the other boys practiced, Mithun’s coach Jyoti Prasad would often play a side game of cricket with six-year-old Mithali to pass time.
- Jyoti Prasad recognized Mithali Raj’s cricket skills and suggested to her father that he should focus on Mithali instead of his son. Jyoti also recommended a National Institute of Sports coach named Sampat Kumar to her parents.

- After this, she joined Sampath Kumar’s Girls Cricket Sports Glory Club for about 2 months, where she was noticed.
- Mithali’s parents did not take Sampath Kumar seriously when he told them that Mithali had the potential to play for the country. Sampath was so confident in Mithali’s skills that he further told her parents,
Mithali is material to play for the country. I, as a coach, can take the challenge. But being a parent, I also need you guys, only then I can work on this… I would like her to play for the country when she turns 14. Sachin Tendulkar had a record, so why don’t we make this girl one?”
- At the age of 9, he was selected to play for the state in a sub-junior tournament under the supervision of Sampath Kumar. She was the youngest to do so.
- Mithali played her first match outside her hometown when she was selected for the sub-junior and was expected to travel to Jalandhar, 2000 km away.
