controversies

  • She was involved in a dispute with the cricket management due to her attitude towards the game during the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20. Mithali, in a letter to BCCI, accused Ramesh Powar and BCCI COA member Diana Edulji of being biased towards her for not including her in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. In response, Ramesh criticized him and said that he had threatened to retire from cricket when he was asked to play lower in the batting order. “Despite being a senior player in the team, she gives minimal input in team meetings. She could not understand the team’s plan and could not adapt to it. She ignored her role and struggled for her own milestones. “Lack of maintaining pace was putting extra pressure on other batsmen.”
  • It is said that Mithali’s relationship with T-20 cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur is also strained.
