Melissa McCarthy responds to Barbra Streisand’s controversial Olympic comments

Melissa McCarthy breaks her silence on Barbara Streisand. Streisand asked the actor if she was in Ozempic, which sparked controversy.

However, it seems that McCarthy has no hard feelings towards Streisand. In fact, she only had good things to say about the actor when she was asked.

“I think Barbra is a treasure and I love her,” McCarthy told TMZ. The outlet asked McCarthy if Streisand was “out of line” with her question. Streisand previously asked McCarthy if he was taking the weight-loss drug in a now-deleted Instagram message.

Streisand also addressed the controversy. She said she didn’t mean any harm by her comment.

She wrote: “I went on Instagram to see the photos we had posted of the beautiful flowers I had received for my birthday! Beneath them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album.”

“She looked fantastic! She just wanted to pay him a compliment. I forgot the world is reading! Streisand added.

McCarthy has posted a photo of her and director Adam Shankman at Center Theater Group’s CTG The Gala event. “Cakes just to honor the amazing @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this guy @adamshankman!!” she wrote in the caption. “This is much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.”

In response, Streisand had written: “Give him my regards. Did you take Ozempic?” However, she deleted the message.

Streisand’s message sparked backlash online. One person wrote: “Take the iPad away from Babs immediately!”

Another commented: “Woe to all those who say it should be a private message, this is an internal thought that does not come out,” one person commented. “She is an older lady. “Old women say bad things.”

Still, another wrote: “Melissa has lost weight before. This was just a cruel comment. Strange,”

McCarthy and Streisand have a previous friendship. They performed a duet of “Anything You Can Do” for Streisand’s album Encore: Film partners sing on Broadway“I think when he opened the door he had leggings and lunch meat in his hand. And I thought, none of this is what she expected,” McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly.

The actress has also been quite vocal about her struggle to lose weight. “I have been all sizes in the world. When she was 20 she was in very good shape, but she didn’t appreciate it. If I was a 6 or an 8, she was like, ‘Why am I not a 2 or a 4?’” she said. “Now I feel like I have two fantastic kids and the dreamiest husband on the planet, and everything else. “It’s just a work in progress.”
