Lilia Vu is a professional golfer. She was born in the United States to Douglas Vu and Kieu Thuy, but her family has Asian ancestry. She is the second of two children of Vietnamese-American parents. Lilia’s father, Douglas, is an American from California, but her mother and her family immigrated to the United States in the 1980s to escape war-torn Vietnam.

Vu is aware of what her parents and grandparents accomplished in the past to ensure a brighter future for her family. She recalled this after receiving the 2023 Chevron Championship trophy in April this year and paying tribute to her late grandfather. Lilia Kha-Tu Du Vu, better known as Lilia Vu, is an American golfer who started playing at a young age under the influence of her father. She went on to play golf at Fountain Valley High School, where she was coached by Carter Keyser.

After high school, she enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied political science while still competing on her varsity golf team. Lilia turned pro in 2019 after leaving UCLA after her junior season. Two years later, she won three Symetra Tour championships and climbed into the top 250 in the Women’s World Golf Ranking.

Lilia Vu Parents: Douglas Vu and Kieu Thuy

Lilia Vu was born on October 14, 1997 in Fountain Valley, California to parents Douglas Vu and Yvonne Kieu Thuy. Yvonne Kieu Thuy, Douglas and Lili’s mother, were married on February 9, 1991. Douglas, her father, was a golf instructor for many years at the David L. Baker Golf Course in California, just north of Mile Square Park. Although Yvonne wasn’t a very good player at the time, the two liked to play the game together regularly. Her favorite sport, however, was always golf. After the birth of their children, Douglas devoted most of his time to teaching golf and them. Kieu Thuy, Lili’s mother, is also a real estate agent and vice president of Future USA, LLC.

Thuy’s family hoped for a better life after the war, but her father, Dinh Du, became gloomy. They eventually fled the country on a ship in 1982 and landed in the United States. Lilia now has American citizenship and competes for the USA in international competitions. Her mother still misses Vietnam and they occasionally go there to see the family that lives there.
