Marlene Warren Wellington News Update

The son of the Wellington lady who was slain by the renowned killer clown decades ago is speaking out for the first time since endorsing the plea agreement that resulted in the recent conviction of his mother’s killer.

Joe Ahrens told WPTV that after 33 years of suffering, he is finally at peace, despite wanting the case to go to trial. A mystery-filled tale dominated the news for more than three decades.

Would we ever learn who the clown with a pistol was who fatally shot Marlene Warren in 1990 at her Wellington home’s front door? Finally, Ahrens claimed that he now has the resolution and the conviction he has been seeking.

On April 25, the murderer of his mother received a 12-year prison term. For killing Marlene Warren, the spouse of her boyfriend Michael Warren, Sheila Keen Warren agreed to a plea agreement.

Ahrens is aware that the agreement robbed him of the chance to receive a harsher punishment—possibly even life in prison—had the matter gone to trial.

“I am much better now. I feel relieved, having lost 1,000 pounds,” Ahrens added. “I now possess the energy I ought to have had a long time ago.”

He recalls eating breakfast with his mother on the day of the shooting 33 years ago.

He said, “[It was] just another morning.”

However, someone soon knocked on the door.

We did see color, flowers, and balloons, but the doorbell didn’t function, Ahrens added.

From the table, his mother got up.

He recalled thinking, “Oh how pretty, flowers and balloons,” as she answered the door, but suddenly there was a crash. “My entire universe was changed. The worst day of my life was that one.

He claimed he was unable to see the clown suit wearer.

“You can’t tell,” he replied. “Can you see someone dressed as a clown? All bases are covered.

He simply remembered the killer going back to their getaway car, oddly calm.

He made a 911 call while grabbing his car keys.

“I drove wildly, crazily, running red lights,” Ahrens admitted. But we failed to capture them.

But he claimed that both he and the investigators had early suspicions about Sheila Keen Warren.

Additionally, he believed his stepdad was sleeping with her.

“He wasn’t coming home, so that said it all,” Ahrens remarked.

He had intended to tell the jury, if the case went to trial, that he had seen Sheila Keen-Warren making out with Michael Warren at a home party while his mother was present.
