Won’t they kiss now? that is what Law & Order: SVU Fans are probably thinking after the decades-long banter between Benson and Stabler. Well, you’re not the only one. Mariska Hargitay also thinks the two should kiss on the show.
This comes after Benson and Stabler got closer than ever to finally kissing. The show teased fans with a cute moment that never paid off, which is beyond frustrating.
Hargitay agrees that they should just kiss.
“To be honest with you, Chris [Meloni] and I thought it should go in one direction and the powers that be shouldn’t, so they changed it at the last minute, that almost kiss,” he told Variety of the moment. However, creator Dick Wolf “didn’t want” this to happen.
“Our chemistry is undeniable,” she said of her and Meloni. “So are the things”. However, she said the actors want to “keep the tension and do what’s right and true for both characters.”
So far, Meloni has not returned to the show for the final season, but Hargitay predicts it will eventually happen. “I don’t see why that wouldn’t or couldn’t happen. “I think we are irrevocably blocked.”
The scene in question showed Meolin’s Stabler approaching Benson after trying to protect her. He asked, “Is there anything wrong with that? I care about you.” She leaned in to kiss Benson, but Benson pulled away from her. She said, “Elliot, I want… I want. But I can’t.”
“Why not?” Stabler asked as a million fans groaned.
“Elliot, I’m not ready for this,” she said, repeating the statement several times: “I’m not ready for this.”

As for the chemistry between Hargitay and Meloni, it’s palpable. She talked about how their real-life friendship changed her life.
“We met and the rest is history,” he said. “It’s iconic. [He’s] “Someone who has changed my life a lot, someone I love.”
In fact, he may have gotten them both hired.
“[Chris] “He was telling me a story as we walked into the network executive screen test and he finished his story,” she recalled. “It was like that from minute one. It was just going.”
I knew I would get the role.
She said: “I thought, ‘If I get paired with him, this is my role.’ And he said the same thing. He says, ‘I love her.’ And then he and I got it,” she recalls, citing Meloni’s “energy, confidence, power” and “his look” of her.
She continued: “He was the guy. I just knew he was the guy from reading the script. He was New York, this dark horse, but fun, light. “I’m so grateful those magical stars collided.”
