Manpreet Badal is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. A five-time member of the Punjab Assembly, Manpreet served as the Minister of Finance and Planning in the Government of Punjab twice, first from 2007 to 2010 and then from 16 March 2017 to 10 March 2022.

Manpreet Singh Badal was born on Thursday, 26 July 1962 (age 61 years; as in 2023) in Badal village, Punjab. His zodiac sign is Leo. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)
Manpreet Singh Badal joined his uncle’s party Shiromani Akali Dal at a young age. He contested his first Legislative Assembly election in 1995 and became the Member of the Legislative Assembly from Gidderbaha constituency. Badal retained the seat for three consecutive terms i.e. in 1997, 2002 and 2007. Manpreet, one of the prominent members of Shiromani Akali Dal, was appointed as the Finance and Planning Minister in the Parkash Singh Badal government in 2007. Finance Minister, Manpreet had some differences with the party regarding the loan waiver offer from the Centre, after which he was removed from his post in September 2010. A month later, he was expelled from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for his involvement in anti-government activities. -Party activities.
People’s Party of Punjab (PPP)
After being expelled from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Manpreet Singh Badal formed his own organization named People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) in January 2011. Ahead of the 2012 legislative assembly elections in Punjab, Manpreet’s party formed an alliance with CPI. , CPI(M), and SAD (Longowal) and Manpreet became the chief ministerial candidate. He contested from Gidderbaha and Maur constituencies but lost both the seats. Manpreet’s father Gurdas Badal had also contested against Prakash Singh Badal from Lambi seat. On 15 January 2016, he merged his party with the Indian National Congress.
Indian National Congress (INC)
After the merger of the People’s Party of Punjab into the Indian National Congress, Manpreet received a ticket from the Congress for the 2017 Legislative Assembly elections and was the architect of the Congress manifesto for the elections. He contested from Bathinda Urban constituency and won by a margin of 18,480 votes over his rival from Aam Aadmi Party. In the same year, he got the charge of the Finance Ministry in the Amarinder Singh-led government.

As Finance Minister, Manpreet Singh helped improve the financial health of the state and during his tenure, Punjab GSDP increased from Rs 4.71 lakh crore to Rs 5.25 lakh crore in 2017-18, an annual growth of 11.5 percent. ‘Shameful’ remarks on IAS officers
In March 2018, a video went viral on social media in which Manpreet can be seen shaming the English skills of IAS officers in Punjab while addressing the World Punjabi Conference. In the video, he can be heard saying, “No one (IAS officer) can write a letter. Sometimes our heads hang in shame as to how these people passed the IAS (exam). They cannot even write letters or memorandums to the Government of India.” He further says, “Except one or two, most of the IAS officers do not know how to write English. They don’t know how to write a letter.” He also said that most of the work in Punjab is being done in Punjabi language. After the incident, some IAS officers termed his remarks as inappropriate and insulting.
bathinda property case
In 2021, a case was registered against Manpreet Singh over irregularities in the purchase of properties at a prime location in Bathinda, Punjab. Sarup Chand Singla, a politician and businessman, filed a complaint against Manpreet, leading to the case being registered. The charges include IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery) as well as violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act. In the complaint, Singla alleged that Manpreet, who was holding the post of Finance and Planning Minister, converted two commercial plots into residential ones for personal gain. After the complaint, the police started a search operation to trace Manpreet. On 25 September 2023, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau raided Manpreet’s farmhouse in Badal, Punjab, with the intention of arresting Manpreet in connection with the case; However, he was not found at the location. The same day, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against Manpreet, due to concerns that he may attempt to flee the country to avoid arrest. On 26 September 2023, a court in Bathinda issued an arrest warrant against Manpreet.
