Manoj Sonkar aka Manoj Kumar aka Manoj Kumar Sonkar was born in Chandigarh, India. According to one source, he was born on Wednesday, 15 February 1984 (age 40 years; as of 2024), and according to another source, he was born on Friday, 15 February 1985 (age 39 years; as of 2024). Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. A few months before his birth, his family moved to Chandigarh from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He studied in a government school in Chandigarh till class 7, after which he left school to support his family after his father’s death. Later he made a career in politics.

He contested the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections from Ward No. 7 (Mauli Jagran and Vikas Nagar) in December 2021 as a BJP candidate and became the Municipal Councilor by winning the election by 784 votes.

He won the Chandigarh mayoral election in 2024 by defeating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, Kuldeep Singh Tita, who was also supported by the Indian National Congress (INC). Sonkar got 16 votes and Tita got 12 votes and 8 votes were declared invalid by the presiding officer Anil Masih. When Manoj was asked about the controversy regarding the Mayor elections, he said that the opposition is creating ruckus to hide the loss caused by its actions. He also talked about his priorities as mayor and said that cleaning the Dadu Majra garbage dump and the welfare of the city will be his priority.
