Mamadou’s childhood and family
Mamadou Ndiaye was born on September 14, 1993 in Dakar, Senegal to parents M’bad and Seynabou Ndiaye. His parents also gave birth to his older brother, Adam. Mamadou’s passion for sports was evident from his childhood in Senegal, although he preferred soccer to hoops. However, after a growth spurt in adolescence, he became quite tall and started playing basketball more often. He came to the United States in 2010 when UC Irvine Anteaters assistant coach Amadou Koundol discovered him and offered him a contract while playing with the young guys in Dakar.
After that, he enrolled at Stoneridge Prep School in Simi Valley, California, where he played games and prepared to learn English because he only spoke French at the time.
