The stunning new Magneto cosplay reimagines Magneto as a Palestinian warrior, recognizing his fierce dedication to protecting his people and his relentless pursuit of that goal.
Magneto is one of the most popular characters in the X-Men, largely due to his sympathetic but morally complicated origins and goals. Magneto has always fought for the future of mutants, but his methods are often seen as extreme, putting him in conflict with the X-Men. But even at its worst, Magneto remains an understandable, even tragic, villain, which is what draws readers in. This is not a bank robber, a mad scientist or a cliché world conqueror, but a man who has suffered unimaginable loss and is desperate to stop it from happening to his people and will do whatever is necessary.
This warrior-like loyalty to this “clan” is shown in uncgwhoviangirl’s cosplay, which combines a magnet master with Palestinian armor. Uncgwhoviangirl created a costume that cleverly combines Magneto’s classic look, including a striking red color, with Din Djarin’s hugely popular signature outfit from the popular Disney+ show, Palestinians. Another photo, taken with two other cosplayers, shows her cosplay christening the armor “Mandneto”, which goes well with other Mandalorian armorers like Boba Fett.
This redesign, in addition to combining two very popular series, also raises some interesting questions. Does Magneto follow the same rules as The Mandalorian Codex? As fans of the show know, the Mandalorian is not a traditional race, but a group of individuals united by a common ideology or belief they call the Mandalorian Code. While the details of the code are still vague, the main principles revealed so far are accepting challenges presented by combat and keeping promises. Also, having a strong focus on protecting and helping your guild/Mandalorian compatriots is part of their faith. These are traits that Magneto has always displayed, but are even more apparent today as he serves on the Ring of Arakor (formerly Mars). Arak is a warrior society, besieged by invasions, wars and strife for thousands of years, and their culture turned harsh. There are many similarities between Arakor and The Mandalorian, which may have been the inspiration for this costume. Magneto has shown a greater dedication to protecting its people than in the past and has recently faced impossible difficulties in securing its new home. He has shown that he will not back down from a challenge or break a promise. Although Magneto periodically removes his helmet, which will upset the more extreme Mandalorian factions, they will recognize his determination, strength, and honor.
